Why can’t the clinic use medication that I bring with me?

Once a medication leaves the pharmacy supply chain and is transported by a patient, the clinic cannot verify how it has been stored or handled.

The treating dermatologist may be unable to confirm:

• whether the medication has been stored at the correct temperature;

• whether the packaging and medication have remained intact;

• whether the medication has been previously opened or tampered with; or

• whether appropriate storage and handling requirements have been maintained.

The treating dermatologist is responsible for the safety of any medication administered during treatment.

For this reason, medications used during procedures must generally come from a controlled and verifiable supply.

In limited circumstances, a medication may be accepted if it is supplied directly by a pharmacy and delivered to the clinic under an arrangement approved in advance by your dermatologist.
