Can I ask for a skin check during my appointment?

Yes. You can raise this with your dermatologist; however, it may not always be possible to perform a full skin check during an appointment booked for a different concern.

A full skin check is a broader clinical assessment and may require additional time or fall outside the course of treatment indicated in your referral.

Your dermatologist will determine whether a full skin check can appropriately be performed during your consultation.

If the skin check involves a broader clinical assessment outside your existing course of treatment, a consultation fee of $320 may apply instead of the usual $215 subsequent consultation fee.

You may be asked to book a separate appointment so that sufficient time can be allocated for a full skin examination.

If the skin check represents a new or unrelated condition or course of treatment, a new referral is required for Medicare benefits to be claimed.

This allows us to arrange the appropriate consultation and advise you of any likely referral or fee requirements in advance.
