Patient conduct and behaviour

Edited

Green Square Dermatology is committed to providing a safe, respectful and professional environment for patients, staff, and visiting practitioners.

All patients are expected to interact with staff in a manner that supports this environment.

Our responsibility.

We have a legal obligation under NSW workplace health and safety laws to provide a safe workplace for staff and others.

SafeWork NSW defines work-related violence as any incident where a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work. This includes behaviour that is verbal, psychological, or repeated in nature.

Expected behaviour.

We ask all patients to:

  • communicate respectfully with staff

  • follow reasonable administrative and clinical processes

  • comply with appointment, payment, and facility requirements

  • engage cooperatively when questions or concerns are addressed

Unacceptable behaviour.

The following behaviours are not acceptable:

  • verbal abuse, including yelling, insults, or derogatory remarks

  • intimidation, harassment, or threatening behaviour

  • repeated refusal to follow reasonable clinic processes

  • attempts to pressure staff to bypass policies

  • abusive or excessive communication by phone, email, or in person

  • behaviour that causes staff distress, fear, or discomfort

  • any form of physical aggression or damage to property

Unacceptable behaviour may occur in a single interaction or as a pattern over time.

How we respond.

Where unacceptable behaviour occurs, Green Square Dermatology may take action at its discretion, including without prior warning.

This may include:

  • limiting or directing communication to a specific staff member

  • restricting or ceasing administrative services, including bookings and payments

  • cancelling or declining appointments facilitated by the clinic

  • requiring communication to occur in writing only

  • restricting or preventing attendance at the clinic premises

Independent dermatologists.

Dermatologists consulting at Green Square Dermatology are independent medical practitioners and manage their own patient relationships.

If Green Square Dermatology restricts access to its administrative services or premises, it will not facilitate bookings, payments, or in-clinic attendance for the patient. If a dermatologist chooses to continue care, this must be arranged independently of the clinic.

Contact following restriction of services.

If access to clinic services is restricted, contact with Green Square Dermatology must be directed to the Business Manager at:

Safety and emergencies.

Emergency services may be contacted by calling 000. Non-urgent police assistance may be sought by calling 131 444 or contacting Redfern Police Station on (02) 8303 5199.
